Heritage
Steamers Website - The concept for the HeritageSteamers
website was Andrew's. The website was designed to make the collections
of the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society accessible for the first
time as well as to help researchers interested in the heritage of
paddle steamers. All design work and creation of material along
with photography was completed by Andrew.
Paddle Steamer Collection - Andrew has managed the Paddle
Steamer Collection over the past fourteen years. During this time
he has managed to build the collection up from around 200 items
to over 20,000. During this time he has had to deal with a complex
variety of ethical and collection management issues that has equipped
him with an outstanding knowledge of how to deal with such issues.
He has also implemented collections management procedures, bought
all of the collection under one roof for the first time as well
as drafting collection managment policies and providing a full research
and enquiry service. Andrew was also responsible for the photographic
project to record the Paddle Steamer Waverley prior to her Heritage
Lottery Funded 'Heritage Rebuild' in 2000.
Chatham
Historic Dockyard - Andrew was responsible for looking after
a major collection of architectural plans showing buildings in the
Dockyard. He was also responsible for recording the architectural
details of the listed Mast House and Mould Loft prior to its conversion
to the 'Wooden Walls' gallery in 1990.
Royal Engineers Museum - Andrew was responsible for the
redisplay of the nineteenth and twentieth galleries at this designated
museum. He undertook research, prepared objects for display and
fitted out gallery displays. He was also responsible for the creation
of a temporary exhibitions gallery and the management of a large
team of craftsmen who worked on these new galleries.
Maritime Heritage Books - Andrew has researched and had
published three books on maritime heritage for Tempus. He is currently
working on a fourth title for Tempus on the pleasure steamers of
the Thames and Medway.
