MV Balmoral is a distinguished member of a rare breed of
historic ships worldwide still operating coastal excursions.
Since 1986, BALMORAL, together with WAVERLEY, the worlds
last sea-going paddle steamer, has kept alive the unique
200-year-old tradition of cruising the remarkable coasts.
rivers and islands of Great Britain and visiting historic
piers and harbours.
Both ships are officially recognised as of national historic
importance and are members of the National Historic Fleet.
In 2016 Balmoral was the flagship of this fleet.

In 2013 the Waverley organisation decided that they could
no longer support operation of Balmoral and she was laid
up in Bristol's historic City Docks. At this time, a group
of people who wished to maintain the traditions and delights
of coastal cruising set up a charitable trust - MV Balmoral
Fund Ltd. - and, as volunteers, set about maintaining Balmoral

With much help from organisations and individuals - both
financial and practical and a fair wind, we were delighted
to return Balmoral to cruising in 2015 and this has continued
in 2016 but we are currently in a major fund raising campaign
to ensure that Balmoral can continue sailing in 2017. (Please

Maintaining a delightful, but elderly 60 year old ship in
full working order is no mean feat and the call on funds
to achieve this is very great. The MV Balmoral Fund is run
entirely by volunteers and to keep Balmoral in operation,
for the benefit of many, we need a constant supply of money
and volunteers. Do please look through this web site and
if you feel that you would like to assist in any way - or
just be associated with this amazing project - do please
get in touch. You can be assured of a friendly welcome and
best of all its great fun!
