Motor Vessel Balmoral - Technical Details

Technical details

Balmoral winchOfficial Number: 5048318.

Builders: J.I.Thorneycroft & Co Ltd, Southampton. Launched 27th June 1949 and trials ran between 28th October and 3rd November in the same year. Radar was fitted on 1st July 1964.

Overall Dimensions: Length 203ft 6in. Breadth 32ft. Depth (moulded) 11ft 1in.

Tonnages: 736 gross, 310 net.

Machinery: Originally two 6 cylinder Newbury Sirron diesels made by the shipbuilders, driving two screws giving a total bhp of 1,200. Bunker capacity 23 tons. Trial speed 16.25 knots: service speed 14.5 knots. All auxiliary machinery electrically driven.

Operational Owners: 1949-79 Southampton, Isle of Wight & South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Company Limited. 1980-81 P. and A. Campbell Ltd. 1986 to present Waverley Excursions Limited.

Passenger Certificate: Class IV 800, Class III 691.

Registered Crew: 22.
