Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a without a doubt one of the best video slot ever released. Cryptologic can take a bow and walk off with the trophy for now. I’m sure there will be slots to top this in the future, but for now, if we had a top 10 list, this would be at number 1. Er, with a bullet.

The game is based on the hugely popular and brilliantly playing console game of the same name – and the developers have gone to hitherto unheard of lengths to incorporate the game play into the slot. The layout is a standard one – 5 reels and 25 paylines, with a range of coin sizes to bet and a 5,000 coin return on a max bet of $500 – that’s a top win of $100,000. But who cares if you win or not – this game is just amazing to play. The symbols animate with actual footage from the console game, the Wild symbol – the Soldier – actually walks out onto the reels and plants bombs or rolls out hand grenades, which explode to shuddering effect on the reels, smoke billows and when you start the bonus game the transition happens behind a smokescreen.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare also has, without a shadow of a doubt, the best bonus game I’ve ever seen on top of everything else. You find yourself behind your weapon in exactly the same way as a real first-person shooter. Enemies pop up and you have to take them out, scoring free spins for each kill – and more for a headshot. What’s more if you get a series kill (5 enemies gunned down in a row), an airstrike shatters the screen and you’re awarded an increased multiplier for your free spins. When you’re hit, the screen fogs with the red mist that will be familiar to any console game player, and when your character’s life runs out, you end the bonus game and start your free spins – 20 of them, at a minimum 2x multiplier, but up to as much as 5x.

Phew – I can’t rave enough about this game. The best advice I can give you is – for the best slots playing experience you will ever have, go and play it now!
