Concept & Content

Andrew Gladwell

Andrew GladwellAndrew has worked in a variety of national, designated and specialist museums since 1985. After graduating in 1984, he initially worked at the Linnean Society of London before spending five years at Chatham Historic Dockyard in Kent. After a further seven years at the Royal Engineers Museum with its Designated collection, he spent several years working with a diverse collection of museums including Croydon Clocktower, Bexley Museum and finally the National Postal Museum in London where he was responsible for two specific parts of this national collection. Since then, he has been working for a number of years for a local history museum in Essex in addition to undertaking a wide range of museum and collection management consultancy work. Andrew has extensive experience in collections management, display, public services and research. In addition, he has published three books on paddle steamer heritage.

Andrew undertook his post-graduate museum studies training at the Department of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester between 1991-93. He was made an Associate of the the Museums Association (AMA) in London in 2004 and is at present a mentor training young curators towards gaining their AMA.

For the past fourteen years, he has been responsible for the collections of the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society during which time the collection has been fully documented, collection management procedures introduced and a permanent store created at Chatham Historic Dockyard in Kent. This website is the culmination of this work to date. Andrew can be contacted by email at andrew.gladwell@fsmail.net
