Donating
material to the PSPS Collection
The collections of the Paddle Steamer Preservation
Society have been built up over the past 50 years and are very
rich although many gaps still exist. The responsibility of caring
for the collections is very great and it is important that we
do not duplicate material or accept objects that fall outside
our Collecting Policy. In view of this, we are not able to accept
everything that is offered to us. Instead, we prefer to know more
about the items being offered before we can decide whether or
not they are suitable for the collection. Ideally, a list of material
would be great, but the Society is aware that this may not be
possible. The Collections Manager would be pleased to advise,
view or collect material if necessary.
You may be wondering why we don't accept everything straight
away. This is ensure that your donation is cared for correctly
from the start and receives the full attention of the Collections
Manager. The decision on what material is placed into the permanent
collection is the responsibility of the the Collections Manager
who has extensive and long-standing knowledge of the Collection.
Generally,
material offered as a donation is accepted. However, it may be
for a variety of reasons that we cannot accept your offer. Please
do not be offended. It could be that we already have at least
one example of that type of material or that it is of a type that
we do not collect in which case we will advise you on whether
there might be another museum that would be pleased to accept
it.
Hopefully, your material is just what we are looking for. However,
as we do not have our own display space at present, we cannot
accept any material with special conditions linked to it for example
for it always be placed on display. But, it will be catalogued
and placed in our store and made accessible to researchers as
well as through other means such as this website. See
how we process your material.
The PSPS Collection is managed under guidelines issued by the
Museums Association and abides by the Museum Association's Code
of Ethics.
Please note:
- The PSPS Collection does not accept material on a loan basis.
- Material is not accepted with specific conditions attached.
