Sir John Betjeman - the Patron of the PSPS

Sir John Betjeman, the late Poet Laureate, became the Patron of the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society in early 1960 soon after the birth of the Society. He held this position until his death in 1984. Betjeman was a well-loved poet and broadcaster with a need to observe and campaign for the British way of life.

The above card from the PSPS Collection was sent to the Society in 1961 soon after he became Patron and includes remarks on the 'dignity' of paddle steamers.
