There are many books and DVDs on paddle and pleasure steamers. Here are a few that may stir some old memories or help with research.

Cosens of Weymouth

Cosens of Weymouth 1918-96
By Richard Clammer

The once familiar Buff Funnel paddle steamers of Cosens & Co Ltd were part of the scenery along the Wessex coast of the south of England. They crowded Bournempouth Pier and Weymouth, offering excursions to the Isle of Wight, Swanage and landings on the beach at Lulworth Cove. To the west the paddlers called at Lyme Regis, and visited the south Devon resorts of Seaton, Torquay, Paignton and as far as Plymouth. Closer to home they offered cruises to see the warships in Portland harbour whilst their fleet of speed boats offered trips in Weymouth Bay. This book tells the fascinating story of these services between 1918 and 1996.

Cosens of Weymouth

Cosens of Weymouth 1848-1918
By Richard Clammer

For over one hundred years, the paddle steamers belonging to Cosens & Co of Weymouth were a familiar and much loved part of the scenery along the coasts of Devon, Dorset and Hampshire. Operating from their home port and seasonal bases at Swanage and Bournemouth, the steamers offered an extensive range of summer excursions along the south coast and even across the English Channel to Cherbourg and Alderney. The development of the company was linked to the growth of the seaside resorts which the steamers served. The story of this quintessentially Victorian company is told in this fascinating book.
